Leon Ok, we actually got these for when we go camping - and if there are any mosquitoes, it's a must. In fact, if you had this racket, you will WISH there were mosquitoes. Yes, it's that much fun. By UnDisclosed I'm a huge arachnophobe so killing spiders on the walls or my high ceilings (ewwww) is always a challenge in skill, grit, and bravery, but this thing takes all the work out of spider killing. It explodes smaller spiders and definitely kills bigger ones. Just keep zapping them until they die... GREAT product. Smells the same, costs less, and a name brand By Krystof (PS 2010--there is now a better attractant that attracts more kinds of mosquito. So this product is perhaps obsolete.) Can be placed in any type of mosquito killer or catcher. Just place anywhere that the air flows around it. This is the best buy with Amazon free shipping. (Other suppliers will charge shipping for each small package. It adds up.) This may be smaller than your original cartridges. However, no matter how big a cartridge is, it can not last much longer. It is better to buy the cheapest cartridge and replace it more often. And Flowtron is a name brand, not some unknown manufacturer. I keep 2 of these cartridges in each mosquito trap, as follows. Twice a month, the oldest cartridge is thrown out, the other is moved to the back, and a new one is placed in the front. In my experience, Octenol may be more significant for catching the mosquitos than CO2, LED lights, UV lights, etc. NOTE: please hold your breath from the moment you open the package--place your mosquito trap away from where you sit or work--use gloves or be very careful not to touch the chemically infused areas. I doubt that anyone knows the long term risks of octenol. The smell is noticably noxious, sort of like moth balls, and labeled as dangerous. 20 of 20 people found the following review helpful. My husband takes them out to the garage with him and kills mosquitos and flies. When the mosquitos are really bad, and they get into the house, we use them inside as well. By Curtis Gomez Urban I have to say that this thing catches a lot of flies. The first day it caught fifty and after that it ramped up quickly to two or three hundred a day. But if you live in a city like I do you may not be able to get this thing far enough away from you. The instructions tell you to place it at least 35 feet from the area that you use. But 50 feet is probably better, as the flies are gathering in heavy numbers within 15 feet of the bait. After a few day the bait smell is also obvious at that distance. So if you have a large backyard (I do not) put the trap in the farthest corner. Or if you don't like your neighbors... PETS The bait is a smelly powdered protein meal that reminds me of dog kibble. My dog went on a sniffing frenzy when I received the box. She is also lured to the hanging bait. So if you have pets make sure they can't reach it. It's not toxic, but believe me, you wouldn't want to clean that mess. FLIES As far as the fly types it catches in my yard, 99.9% are green bottle and blue bottle flies (AKA blow flies) and a few house flies. I have observed many flesh flies lured to it but the trap cover has too narrow a gap for them to enter comfortably. You could leave the top off I suppose but the added water would evaporate quicker in the recommended direct sun. The fly trap arrived last Wednesday, I set it up according to the instructions and hung it in a tree in an out of the way spot. I think the flies are coming from our 2 dogs, but we also have a lot of flies around our trash can. This trap works wonders. It is a very effective alternative to spraying poisons around the house. It is very easy to set up. All you do is pour in the bait and some warm water and hang it up. Based on the instructions, we hung it on the side of our house where we don't spend a lot of time. Although there is a foul odor (the bait as well as rotting flies) because of where we hung it, this was not a problem. I found it to be very satisfying checking the trap every day to see how many flies it had caught. I'm not just talking about 10 or 20 flies, I'm talking about hundreds or thousands of flies. The only problem I had was that it filled up with too much water when it rained. I placed a hook on the corner of my eaves and hung the trap from the hook. However, it was not protected from the rain or sprinkler. Next time, I will hang the trap up under the eave so it will not fill up with water and prevent flies from entering the trap. It's far better than having to step, swat, squish or even wave 'em away those and clean up the mess afterwards and quite effective on ants crawling on the floor (just wipe the zapper face around the floor where the ants are crawling and you'll see and hear lot of popping and crackling) and swatting the no-see-ums and skeeters (just wave the zapper around you and hear the satisfying pops...). I don't get bitten as much, using this zapper. I've even developed a technique for zapping flies on surfaces (floors, counters and tables).... By Postlapsaria I live in a very old house out in the countryside and I constantly have problems with flies and moths in my bedroom/office, particularly at night when they somehow get in here from outside after being attracted to the light. I sealed off all the cracks I could find but night after night I'd be sitting at my computer and a giant moth would suddenly fly into my face. When I first started looking at insect traps I thought paying ~$40.00 for a small indoor fly trap was ridiculous, but after trying all sorts of flypaper traps and other things to no avail I splurged and bought this, hoping to finally be rid of the issue. So, am I rid of the issue? Sort of. The first thing that happened was I realized I needed to order more glue boards for the trap, bringing the total purchase cost to $55.00 for a device that looks like it should cost about $12.99 at Wal-Mart. After the first two nights, the glue board was full...and it only had 4 moths on it. But due to the large size of the moths and the fact that they flap around and plaster the sticky side with dust from their wings, all of the sticky surface was either filled by the size of the four moths or was no longer sticky due to all the moth residue coating it. So I ordered the extra glue boards, which really should have been included with the original fly trap, and tried again. It more or less succeeded in doing what it was supposed to: catching the flying insects in the room. It works much better with all the lights off so the fly trap is the only light source apart from a TV screen or computer monitor; I haven't had much luck with it when the lights are on or when it's daytime and there's light coming in through the windows. Something else I should mention: one night while working on my computer I was confronted by a gigantic fly buzzing around my face/ears/head that would circle the room endlessly but never land so I could swat it. I plugged the fly trap in, turned off the lights and waited...for the first 20 minutes or so the fly kept buzzing around the room like crazy, annoying me no end, until finally it flew over to the fly trap and stuck. I felt very pleased and triumphant and went to inspect the trap; the fly was buzzing like crazy, all of its legs stuck to the glue board. Then by the time I walked back to the computer the fly trap was empty and the fly was buzzing around the room once more. This was on a fresh glue board, so there's no excuse for why it couldn't hold the fly there. All this being said though, it does still continuously attract and trap moths, flies and gnats when no other trap will. It just seems rather overpriced, especially considering the dubious quality of the glue boards. It catches dozens of pesky little gnats, fruit flies, etc., that I didn't even know I had. And house flies and small moths. When the sticky board is fairly well covered with "catches", you need to change the board for maximum effectiveness. It uses UV (ultraviolet) light to attract the flying insects. So, it's best not to place it in a brightly lit area. Also, the "UV" output of the bulb diminishes over time, even if the light bulb is still lit. So, replace the bulb at the beginning of the season. I have two, one in a dark hallway near an exterior door, and, one in my kitchen. The kitchen one does its job mostly at night, as the kitchen is pretty bright in the daytime. Lovitt We always get mosquitoes in the house every spring, even though I tape around the edges of our screens, and hang flying pest strips in the garage. So I thought I'd give one of these Dynatrap Indoor Insect Eliminators a try. It does catch flying insects, although moths seem much more interested in this trap than mosquitoes. I ran it indoors for a week and caught exactly one gnat, so I put it out on the front porch and ran it overnight, just to see what got trapped. When I opened it up the next morning, I counted 4 mosquito hawks, 3 little brown moths, 3 little black beetles, numerous gnats, and two mosquitoes. Possibly the mosquito hawks had eaten some of the trapped mosquitoes, so the count might not have been exact. Anyway, these are some of the 'features' I'd like to see improved before I can whole-heartedly recommend this product: --the fan is fairly noisy,and the blue lights are bright enough so that you probably won't want to run this unit in your bedroom --even though I've only been running this product intermittently for a couple of weeks, one of the fluorescent bulbs is already buzzing and flickering like it isn't going to last much longer --if you and this product are shut in a room with a mosquito, the mosquito will choose you over the trap --this product doesn't automatically kill the bugs that are trapped in it Be sure to spray them before you open it up to clean it, unless you plan to swat the captives as they fly away. Quinn We purchased this to try to address moisquitos getting into our cabin and bothering us at night. It picked up quite a few, although they still bothered us as well. But out of the box, the black light didn't work. As the text stated it was a new type, I didn't know how bright it should be. Called the 800 number and left a message. After a couple of days, opened it up and found the bulb wasn't plugged in, so plugged it in and then the light worked as well as the fan. The light and the fan takes some getting used to if you're trying to sleep in the same room with them, which we were. But three months later, I'm still waiting for Flowtron to call me back and address the question I had left with them. So the unit is OK, but the company isn't much on customer service (at least to this customer!). 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not very effective By Tyler Durden I own both the Flowtron BK80D and this "Galaxie" model The reason I bought this unit was to avoid creating more noise (BK80D makes zapping noise). It does succeed in trapping small flying insects, just not enough. I see the "swarm" of insects around it, so the blacklight and octenol must be effective at drawing them in. I suspect the failure is the fan isn't strong enough to suck them in (evidence is little moths able to fly in/out and around it without getting trapped). I am ecstatic with the Flowtron BK80D - its a lean mean killing machine in comparison (piles and piles of insects fall to the ground). This unit barely got a handful after 2 months of continuous operation (and diligent octenol replacement). Sorry Flowtron, but this one is a miss! Bug bombs, sprays, swatting, etc... nothing would get rid of them. I'd kill 10, only to find 5 more hovering over the sink 2 hours later, right where I just sprayed. I got this thing, and within 12-14 hours, about 8 hours of the initial time being daylight and lit, I caught about 20 gnats already. The sticky pad is REALLY sticky and as soon as they touch it they are doomed to a slow death. This thing has knocked a huge dent into the gnats population and I am happy to have it. The only down size is this thing is big... it's at least 12 inches tall and about 3-4 inches wide, it puts off a bright light but works double as a nightlight so thats okay. It's a bit expensive but I'd pay twice for what this thing has done already. Also the fact it only comes with 1 sticky pad and additional pack of 10 of them are pretty expensive But if you only have to use one a month or until you get your infestation under control, that might not be a big deal. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good Fly Trap By maddog24 After having flies taking up residency in my home, I tried the sticky hanging traps and the sticky boards, but they would only work if the flies landed on them. Bad Idea By Kerrie Lu I bought this product thinking that solar power would be enough to kill the bugs and help me save on the electric bill, BIG mistake. The box comes w/ two very cute lights but only one of them worked. AND no matter how long I left them out to charge there was never enough power for them to stay lit at night or to kill the bugs around my home. I live out in Central California where we have mosquitos and all kinds of flying insects at night and day time is sunlight from 6:30 am to 9 pm. My brother's electric bug light was better than this. The batteries were corroded on the ends and they would not light the lights So I bought some Nmh batteries and put them in the lights. The lights are suppose the charge the batteries, but after 5 days the batteries were dead. I put the batteries in a charger and then back in the lights and they lasted for another 5 days. The reason I bought these light is so I would not have to take care of re-charging the batteries every 5 days. They do kill bugs when the lights are lit. The lights are suppose to be stainless steel, but they rusted the first day they were outside. The switches on the lights are very difficult to use. I bought five of these devices hoping that I could give some away and make my friends happy, if they worked right. They have absolutely no mosquito repelling power. Also, they are NOT silent when switched to position 1 but instead make an extremely high-pitched and very annoying sound. I kept two of these, turned on at about 6ft apart. Both were on position 1 (which the incredibly poorly written instructions describe as the sound of a bat) and after getting bitten 3 times I turned them on to position 2 (described as dragonfly sound here on Amazon, and male mosquito sound on the packaging) it actually seemed to attract more mosquitoes, so I got bitten 4 more times and my friend got 2 bites. I did this experiment for three nights in a row, trying just one device for fear that the two might be interfering with each others' sound and being ineffective..just got more bites. I practically saw the mosquitoes flying right around the device. Look, it's a magnificent piece of junk, that's what it is. It's rare for me to write a good review, and even more rare to write a bad one, but in this case I couldn't wait to give this garbage the one star. I miss the patio before people will come on, or before we eat on the terrace in the evening. It works well. You must wait while the coil is heated by lighting both models and then begins to fog. Push the mist away from you in a sweeping motion, and it creates a "bug barrier." Patio life is virtually bug free! Regular use Fogg and you will break the life cycle of insects as you try to stay away. It would be nice if the smell was more like lemon or lemon. It would be attractive to spray. Moreover, the pleasant scent lingering fog as it regulates lemon. Additionally, lemon is a natural insect repellent so, would you the best of both worlds with both chemical and natural compound used simultaneously. I recommend these products I like the Burgess model is better than Black Flag, but the flag Blag has electric start, which is more fun than using a lighter to light the Burgess. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Gets the error by RS Service Co have used this very intense in some areas for mosquitoes and it does a good job, but not with the liquid spray that comes with it. I had to use slower than I thought, for it takes its time to heat up the coils as you spray. Malathion Buy commercial, mixed 50/50 with diesel in the beginning, but was not satisfactory. Then use a 50/50 mix of kerosene and have a right. Wear protective BREATHING! The mixture that we used did a great job of eliminating flying insects in the area, yet is strong for the first time with only a particle mask, I got a little sick to my stomach. I had two, but dropped one on the floor and the blade broke, so I'm ordering another. I had reviewed this a while back, but it is on an Amazon page for another seller, which no longer sells it, so it doesn't appear when you search. Anyway, perhaps the mosquitos are dumber here in DC than eleswhere, but eventually they end up in or around the trap, dead Most of the mosquitos actually don't die in the trap's net basket, but are battered by the fan blade and end up laying in front of or behind the traps (they get knocked out through vents in the back, I think). So if at first you don't not think it's working, put the trap on white sheet of paper and you'll find them. We keep them running at night, when the mosquitos are actively looking for us, and perhaps that's when the traps work best -- in the dark with those enticing blue led lights. This product is also sold under different entries on Amazon and the noted reviews there suggest the same thing. The bulb will begin to darken, flicker, etc. and cannot be easily replaced. I can not recommend this product because it does not work as advertised. We tried it out on the Asian beetles (those who look like ladybugs, but bite humans), spiders, a housefly, and a few mosquitoes (no-see-ums). It worked for the mosquitoes, but we had to beat the rest of the bugs in the tube, as they hung on the wall, ceiling, or web, and refused to be sucked in. I do not think I was going after a bee or wasp with the Bug Wand, because I would not want them to lose their temper, trying to save them in a 1.5 inch diameter, two meters long tube. (West Nile virus found in this state). I have two cats indoors and keep the window cracked in the back of the APT 2000 ft2 near their room and laundry area. Although there is a screen installed in the window that I keep open and appears to fit the amount of bugs collected by this model is scary! Some are large and others are "not seeums" I like this model because it was made to attach to a wall (not hanging at all), we are able to fly high with its own a flat surface (office, etc. utility shelves. ..) The bottom of this unit is the area of ​​collection and the need to purchase additional mats sticky that corresponds to the bottom of the unit. For a customer, I have many flying creatures to leave a door open because of my dogs. I am afraid that my mouth for fear of landing open there. The flytrap has a set of lights not only flies collected, but mosquitoes, moths, and a series of unidentified flying creatures, and have allowed me to live in peace again. I thought it took many beneficial insects than mosquitoes. Not quite willing to box and send back the three units, I removed the bulbs in the trap and ran the test again a few days. The difference was phenomenal! Not a bug just fine, but only those pesky mosquitoes. Since then they have set traps for the other two, and is in the process of searching for extras is placed around the patio, so you can stop using the two mosquito magnets. The only comment is somewhat misleading to describe this is that it can be used indoors and outdoors. If used outdoors, it should be in a covered area, like a porch under the house eaves, etc. to keep the rain. The description must account for this. However, I am very pleased with the performance so far of this product, and will be looking at our current two Mosquito Magnets when I sell enough replacements for the Dyna Trap units are much less expensive to run, much less maintenance too. Now I just kind of a waterproof shelter for the Dyna Trap build, so I can put them away in the yard. Not anymore! You do not have to wait to settle an insect, you can zap it in the air. Other goal-less chance of error and against the walls! This maneuverability is especially nice to kill the big scary hornets where a touch could lead to a regular swat bitter revenge. Just a touch of the hot grill and immobilized. It is also very nice with swarms of mosquitoes, or the terrible pantry moths, a sweep and zap and you are alone in the living room again. It's not a big backyard, but it is big enough to hold all kinds of pesky bugs crawling and flying around to have. I bought this product to treat this problem and every day and night, it gives me an experience that nobody else had, until she had the diplomats. It was a praying mantis that my court was the right place, intended to hang it. In my diplomat, who is a bad idea. Not only that this bug is fried, but after the shock, it was a pleasure for us triggered. Mosquitoes, flies, grasshoppers, etc., is not ready for this powerful product. I put my balcony outside my sitting on the low chair. He only a few hours for 3 days during the night and was surprised at how many bugs were slain around 100, not the fall. The past year compared to the plastic cage Flowtron smaller version that is out there. This cage is made of steel I love to move on. If money is not one thing, it will be best for your money!
